Should cell phones be banned in schools?

I don't think cell phones should be banned in schools. Most educators see them as distractions, but few see them as great learning opportunities.  They can be used to communicate in class polls and/or discussions.  Most phones have cameras so they could take pictures or videos of important things such as labs and possibly send them to a class mate who missed school.  Most phones also have calendars which can be used to keep track of quizes, tests, and projects.  Some smart phones have internet access and other useful applications.  Students can take notes using their voices and/or some phones have a "note pad" that could be used for schools.

But many educators still believe that cell phones are more distraction then anything.  Schools could do many things to prevent the negative use of cell phones.  They believe that most children will play games during class, but the teacher and/or his or her aid could be walking around to make sure children are doing what they are doing.  During tests children could put their cellphones in a basket or on their desk to prevent cheating.  Schools could provide insurance or have a tracking method for the cell phone in case of theft.  People also believe that pictures would be taken that shouldn't be.  I think teachers should watch out for that, and cell phones should be kept out of locker rooms.  When a student goes to the bathroom, he or she should leave their phone in the classroom.
