Kanye West

Kanye West was born on June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, Georgia.  His parents got a divorce when he was only three years old.  He was raised in Chicago by  his mother who was an English professor.  He spent the summers with his father who was a famous photographer and eventually  became a church  counselor.

He graduated high school and spent one year in  art college at Chicago State University.  He dropped out of college because he felt he wasn't learning fast enough and felt he would learn quicker through life.  In 2001 he moved to New York to pursue his music dream.  Jay - Z hired him to produce songs for one of his albums.

One night driving home from the recording studio, Kanye almost died.  He fell asleep at the wheel and was in a head on car crash.  He broke his face and since his jaw was fractured, it had to be wired shut.

Gucci Mane

Radric Davis, whos stage name is Gucci Mane, was born on February 2, 1980 in Birmingham, Alabama.  He chose his stage name after his father who is called "Gucci Man" because he was a hustler.

He worked with Big Cat Records.  He met Big Cat while doing jail time together.

On May 10, 2005, men tried to attack Gucci and steal his trademark "So Icey" chain. The men trying to steal Gucci’s chain were shot at by Gucci’s group of self-defense. A few days before the incident, people found out that there was an arrest warrant for him. He ended up turning himself into the police on May 19, 2005. Sometime around December 30, 2005, police announced that there was not enough evidence to for a case against Gucci's murder charge.

Shortly after, he was arrested for possession of marijuana and having an unlicensed gun.  He was caught the same day that his debut album “Trap House” was supposed to be released.

What NOT to Post on Facebook

Here's 13 things not to post on facebook!
Opinions:
1. I think that it's crazy that people are able to guess your social security number by birthplace and birthdate.
2. I think that websites ask for too much information about people's personal lives.  Some people don't know that this can be shared with people you may not want knowing.
3. I would hope that someone doesn't post their adress on facebook.  I see that as pretty much asking to get robbed or kidnapped.
4. Like my mom always says, don't tell anyone that your going away until you come back from the trip.  Referring back to number three, if people know your adress and that you aren't home, you're pretty much asking for trouble.
5. Short trips away from home I'm suprised at.  Usually when I'm gone for a few hours there is always someone home.  Also, I don't think someone would try to rob your house if you are only going to be gone for a few hours because I think stealing a large television would take a while to get out my front door.
6. Inappropriate pictures obviously don't belong on facebook.  If it is something that you think might haunt you later than it shouldn't be published.  There are "flags" and reports for pictures.
7. No one should post confessions as their statuses.  No one really cares if it doesn't affect them.  Whatever you say can be saved and used against you later.
8. Obviously phone numbers shouldn't be given out.  If someone on facebook wants to have your number they can just ask for it.
10.  When it comes to your child/ren on facebook I think it is up to the parent.  I think it is ok to post pictures and have tags if the privacy settings are being set appropriately.
11. I think its terrible that health insurance companies creep on what dangerous activity you have been doing and over charge you for higher risk.
12. If you post pictures of the inside of your house is a definite no because, like above opinions, it is asking for someone to rob you.  If your saying you're not going to be home and people already know what they inside of your house looks like, it can make them quicker and more efficient to steal.

Blogging Advice

For any blogger it is important to know your research. You should also include your personal opinion about what you are blogging about. To engage your reader, you should use pictures, videos, and links.

After watching the video, it made me realize that since the internet is more open to kids, it inspires us to learn things adults can't teach us.  Like how that girl learned to play piano, younger kids may be able to play an instrument.  Some students are visual learners, so they can learn by what they see on the screen.  It can start careers younger and make people famous, for example Fred.

P.S. HEY MR. FIELD!! =)

Conflict Minerals

Today in class we watched a video about Conflict Minerals.  I'm surprised that the world we live in today wouldn't take action in stopping the madness.  I am also shocked that Congo's government isn't taking action either.  I am also surprised that the gang hasn't tried to take over its own or other countries.  I think that the government should shut them down or imprison whoever is in charge.  I also think all who are involved should be imprisoned too.

I am sorry to say that I haven't found out about this until today, but if I just found out, imagine how many people still don't know.  I think it is even worse that they use sexual force, such as rape, to scare their people just for money.
But this situation some how ties to how we should treat misbehaving children.  We are "rewarding" the people killing millions by giving them our money, when really we shouldn't because of the issue.

Japan's Earthquake and Tsunamis

On March 11, 2011 about 350 people died in an earthquake in Japan.  About another 500 people are missing.  The earthquake was the fifth largest in the world since 1900.  The biggest waves were 6-7 feet tall.

During the earthquake, 20 people had ceiling fall on them at a graduation.  Four trains were swept away and a ship carrying 100 people.  Fires also are occuring within the cities.  Dams have been broken and flooded many houses.  Some people are spending their nights at their offices because lifts have stopped working.  Around 400 million homes lost power.

The earthquake spiked a 8.9. Some waves reached 6 miles inland.

web 2.O tools

Here's some great Web 2.O tools!

Glogster-
I have used Glogster this year in English class for the play "Romeo and Juliet", by Shakespeare.  It's great to use instead of a poster on paper because you don't need to worry about messing around with cutting and gluing.  You can also add videos, sound clips, and backgrounds for your poster.  Learn how to use it!

Edmodo-
Our Web 2.0 class uses Edmodo.  It is great for educational purposes because the whole class can find out assignments and share with others.  Here's how you use Edmodo!

Twitter-
Even though many of my classmates, including me, don't like Twitter, it can be helpful in classes.  It is a great way to communicate with others around the world who are interested in what we are doing or what we are learning.  Learn how to use Twitter.

Wordpress-
Wordpress has been very helpful for me in the past.  Many teachers use it to keep track of assignments, which is great if I forget what it was.  It is also great because they can post notes or important information about projects, quizzes, and tests etc.  Wordpress can be helpful for education, learn how to use it!

GoogleDocs-
I have used GoogleDocs for every subject this year.  It is great for projects because you can share with other students without having to get together to do it.  It automatically saves so nothing is lost. It also makes good graphs and charts easily.  You can also email projects to teachers so you don't have to print out anything.  Learn the new way to do assignments!

EasyBib-
Since schools have been so strict about plagiarism, EasyBib is a great way to prevent  it.  Learn how to now!

iPad 2

Apple has made the iPad 2. It is 33% thinner, faster, and 15% lighter.  It has a new smart cover too, which is great for looking at the screen in any way you want.  It has two cameras which is great for video chat.  It has a longer battery, which now lasts 10 hours.  They have 9 times the gaming performance.  When it's iPad cover opens up the iPad wakes up.  When closed the iPad sleeps conserving battery and energy.  You can the screen position and change the volume with a switch.

Facebook Pro's and Con's

A man, Andrew McDonald, bit off another man's ear and spit them onto the pavement.  They were fighting because of Facebook messages.  But Facebook also contributed to Egypt's revolution. Here are some Pro's and Con's of Facebook.
Pro's of Facebook
  • easy communication
  • educational purposes
Facebook could be used for kids who have missed school and they would be able to check homework or class assignments.  It also could be used for communicating with students or teachers about classroom material, for example, projects.  Video's of labs or class discussions could be video taped and shared.  Class notes could be written in notes which students could look at or be tagged in.  Pictures or video comments could be graded or count as homework.
  • find old friends and reconnect with them
  • promote yourself for businesses
Con's of Facebook

  • bullying
Many teenage suicides are caused by online bullying.
  • addictions
The average time spent on facebook is 7 hours a month.  For teenagers, I personally believe it is a lot more.
  • obesity
While people are on Facebook, most of the time they are sitting down.  If your sitting down you're not exercising.
  • inappropriate or unwanted pictures, videos etc.
  • personal information shared with people you may not know
