Japan's Earthquake and Tsunamis

On March 11, 2011 about 350 people died in an earthquake in Japan.  About another 500 people are missing.  The earthquake was the fifth largest in the world since 1900.  The biggest waves were 6-7 feet tall. 

During the earthquake, 20 people had ceiling fall on them at a graduation.  Four trains were swept away and a ship carrying 100 people.  Fires also are occuring within the cities.  Dams have been broken and flooded many houses.  Some people are spending their nights at their offices because lifts have stopped working.  Around 400 million homes lost power.

The earthquake spiked a 8.9. Some waves reached 6 miles inland.
